This year’s Mooncake Festival may lack the grandeur and merriment of the previous years, but the true spirit of the Mooncake Festival will not be forgotten, as the bonds between family members and friends are now stronger than ever in the face of a global pandemic. Everyone was given the opportunity to play and win some prizes. Part of the day’s celebration was the most awaited dice game in their respective classrooms.ĭespite the absence of students due to the pandemic, the faculty and staff of Holy Cross convened and had much fun playing dice game to commemorate the event. If we recall the school’s past Mooncake Festival celebrations, the myth of Hou Yi and his wife Chang’e was portrayed by a selected group of students. The Mid-Autumn Festival was held on September 21st this year. Aside from China, a “mid-autumn festival” is observed in several Asian communities. Among other things, Chinese people gather for feasts, light paper lanterns, eat mooncakes, and a reunion time for families. The essences of this celebration are: (1) thanksgiving and celebration of harvest and (2) worshipping the moon. The Mid-Autumn Festival is China’s most important event next to the Chinese New Year. Holy Cross High School, being a Chinese-Catholic school, commemorated one of China’s most important festivals: the traditional Mid-autumn Festival, popularly known as the Mooncake Festival. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8 th month of the Lunar Calendar.
