Guide a royal dynasty through the centuries. But the most successful heirs are those who build on an already secure foundation.Ĭrusader Kings III is rich with new historical content and character options, it has never been easier to wrap yourself in the ermine cloaks of power, writing your own story of castles, knights, crusades, and murder. Heirs should improve on the oversights of their predecessors. That doesn't mean it can't be spiced up a bit with flavor packs, but I don't think they need to change the core system to make it deeper. The security of a dynasty rests in the quality of its successors. I think I'd like to see completely brand new things to do to increase the overall dimensions of the game (like they did with Royal Court), rather than go deeper into an existing system like warfare. Add to that the commander traits (which also make a big difference) and I think if you get any more "sophisticated" it becomes too much for this game-maybe even ahistorical. Its great when you can position yourself and bait the AI into diving on you and an advantageous position and take on a larger force. The four things that actually mattered (1) Army size, (2) Troop Type (archer, spearmen, horsies), (3) Quality of Soldiers (knights, levies, etc.), and (4) Terrain (like he mud at Agincourt)/Fortifications are all represented nicely and actually matter when deciding if you can take on a large enemy stack. Keep in mind, war during this medieval period was simple. I've played even more HOI4 (500 hr) than CK3 (250 hr), but I actually think warfare in CK3 is almost perfect and does not need to be revamped. Currently, /r/CrusaderKings is operating its seventh communal game.
